Specification Of Test Swipes

Specification Of Test Swipes

Sample any surface contaminated with radioactivity with our test swipes. Users find the swipes are convenient and easy-to-use. The swipes are cloth discs attached to the back of the record slip. Individual record slips are used to perform wipe tests indicated in NRC and Agreement State Regulations. Boxes contain 25, 100, or 500 record folders, which can be used to easily identify each sample smear. This helps prevent cross-contamination of smears, transferring smears to the counting facility, or storing smears until discarded. Smears have slightly adhesive back for keeping your sample exactly where you need it to be.

Swipes are sold for use with the Ranger WipeTest Plate, which slides easily onto the unit and positioning the depression and wipe directly in front of the GM tube window at a fixed distance of 1 centimeter. The Wipe Test plate is removable for general surveying. Many customers using the Ranger Wipe Test Plate also use it as a Beta Shield for the 2-inch GM detector. (patent# 5,936,246)

A rule of thumb for determining if the area is contaminated is if the CPM is three [3] times greater than that of background.

Uniformity – each smear is the same. They are made of 8 ½ oz 100% cotton twill. They do not curl when used on a rough surface. Also, the adhesive leaves no residue in the planchet. We have modified this smear to help reduce it’s cost. Our record folder has been down sized to 2 5/8” W x 3 3/4” H. For your convenience the smear and record folder are packed loose and unfolded. The box is plain white, but sturdy enough for stacking and rough handling. Please note that the quality of the smear itself has not been altered.
